Some people want to make movies because they want the hollywood experience – social status, glamor, connections, networking. They want to be able to take pictures of the commotion of production with their petty little smartphones. They create to be seen.

Some people want to make movies because they like the challenges production places before them – film is, for all intents and purposes, an industry of problem-solving. These people see it as a puzzle they’d like very much to solve.

Some people want to make movies because they don’t know what else to do with their lives. They like movies, so they see it as an organic path to take.

Some people want to make movies because they like being in charge.

Some people want to make movies for the fame.

Some people want to make movies because they want to make a lot of money.

Some people want to make movies for no good reason at all.

I want to make movies because if I don’t make movies, I will die, and that is that.

Have you ever seen one of those drawings comparing the left and right sides of the brain? The right side is always throwing these beautiful colors and images – creativity, color, light, imagination. The left side is always pictured as being cold and grey – logic, mathematics, reason. I don’t know why the left side is portrayed so blandly. There’s just as much beauty in huge arrays of logic and only those with a sufficiently developed right brain can see it. I wish I was one of those people.
