If somebody says, ”I love you,” to me, I feel as though I have a pistol pointed at my head. What can anybody reply under such conditions but that which the pistol-holder requires? ”I love you, too.”

Kurt Vonnegut

I swear I haven’t forgotten about you guys. I’ve just been a lump this summer. I’m sorry. I’m sure things will pick up when school comes back around. At least then I’ll have something to talk about as opposed to all of the nothing that’s been going on.

I think the worst thing in the world is when people try to invalidate my career choice by telling me that the arts are unimportant. Do you know why there were no American cars manufactured between the years 1942 and 1945? During WWII, they shut down the most prolific industry in America so they could use those resources to produce wartime goods fulltime. You know which industry they fought damn hard to protect? The film industry. They knew that it was completely vital to the war effort to keep morale up and give Americans a reason to smile and a way to escape for an hour and a half at a time. My industry is something that is just as important as any engineer’s or any chemist’s. Next time any of you try to make me feel bad for working toward a degree in something I love and something I know is important will be the last time I talk to you. I know I’ll be working three times as hard to make ends meet, and I am one hundred percent fine with that. I’m proud to be in the business of bread and circuses.
